How to teach memoir...🤔

Lesson idea of the week: Write a memoir.

Hi Reader,

If you're starting the year with narrative writing, your students are going to feel successful and confident.

Why?

They've probably written at least one narrative every year of school. Plus, they are surrounded by story telling -- so, like all of us adults, narratives are familiar.

That's why they'll be ready to write a memoir. It's a narrative, so it has the comfortable story-telling attributes. But it requires higher level thinking as students consider writing their own memoir.

Here are two blog posts that will help you get started.

Step-by-step

From start to finish, this guide will help you teach memoir writing.

Memoir Texts You'll Love

What a great reading & writing combo! Here's a reading list!

What you'll love:

➡️Students can read a memoir while they write their own. They'll have a built in mentor text.

➡️This is a great way to get to know your students.

➡️A memoir is a small event -- not a life story. This naturally narrows the topic -- something students often struggle with.

Here's are the done-for-you mini lessons!

Give memoir writing a try and let me know what you think.

And, just in case no one has told you this recently, you are AMAZING and WONDERFUL because you are helping future leaders! 💖

With gratitude for all you do,
